about the film

Creating Make A Joyful Noize is a mini-documentary that blends music, spoken word interviews, and dance to capture the visceral, contagious and unapologetic energy of Black joy. It travels from Brooklyn, New Orleans and Accra, Ghana to present Black joy as a healing force for transformation. Musicians Chen Lo and Asante’ Amin—the creative duo behind Soul Science Lab, lead you on a journey of spirit, pain, resistance, and self-discovery as they provide an all-access look into the creation of their forthcoming visual album—Make a Joyful Noize.

Selected by Penn State and Carnegie Hall

"We remain overjoyed to have been a part of the development of 'Make a Joyful Noize.'  Chen and Asante truly understand the need for art and experiences that tap into the potentials our shared community and celebrate the spirit of learners, music makers and imaginations of all ages.  It will be a long time before Carnegie Hall again buzzes with the energy, spirit, and yes, Joy, that Soul Science Lab brings with them when they walk out on stage."

Aaron siegel, Director of Special Projects for the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall
